The Structure Of Healthy Skin

Healthy skin does not just appear healthy. Healthy skin is bone deep. Skin is part of your posture, just like muscles and bones and joints. Skin has structure, just like the rest of our body.

The Biomechanics Of Skin

The same 4 principles of human movement apply to skin:

  1. Resistance
  2. Flexibility
  3. Elasticity
  4. Deformation

Why Skin Gets Damaged

Thin, sun damaged, and loose & crepey skin are the result of deformation. We think this is irreversible. The good news is that there is another potent biomechanical process that is always going on in our skin.

Step 1 - Skincare Products That Really Work

What makes an effective skincare formula? There are 4 essentials.

  1. High quality, high-tech active ingredients in high enough concentrations to actually make a difference.
  2. High-tech & multifaceted delivery systems within the formula to ensure that the active ingredients get to their target tissues within your skin so they can get right to work re-educating your skin.
  3. An effective preservative system (hopefully natural/organic) to ensure that the ingredients are stable and protected from contamination and degradation.
  4. A user of the product (that's you) who is committed to using it as recommended on a daily basis.

Step 2 - Systemic Skincare Supplements

In order to regenerate new skin, we must have the necessary skin-food and skin-water to grow it. As we age, our body will prioritize regeneration of vital organs, bone, muscle, etc., over the regeneration of skin. If you want to put your skin into a PT home program, you will need an excess of circulating skin food and water.

It is difficult to get enough of the necessary food & water in our diet to create an excess that circulates through our system. This combination of skin food and water is required to maintain the healthy collagen & elastin scaffolding of all our tissues, including skin. There are two oral supplements that you will need. I know it can be overwhelming to investigate which supplements are the best. Good news, I have done the work for you. Pure Encapsulations fits the bill.

  1. The skin-food is broad spectrum amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Collagen & elastin are proteins. You do not need to invest in all the fancy and expensive designer collagen supplements. A simple broad spectrum formula will do.
  2. The skin-water is hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is one of the essential parts of the extracellular matrix of skin. Basically, HA bathes our tissues and it also suspends cellular nutrients (or skin-food), making them bioavailable. Make sure that the HA you choose is low molecular weight for the best bioavailability.

Step 3 - Manual Techniques To Stimulate Remodeling Of Your Skin In 3D

This may sound rather complicated, but it's not really. All this means is gently pinching, rolling and vibrating your skin while applying your serums and moisturizers. Not only does this increase penetration of your skincare products (by up to 30%), it encourages the remodeling process we mentioned earlier. If you recall, our tissues (including skin) remodels based upon the demands placed upon it.

For Crepey Skin

  1. Apply product to fingertips and distribute over skin
  2. Gently pinch areas of skin away from its foundation
  3. Roll skin gently back and forth between your fingers
  4. While doing all of this, gently twist and vibrate your skin

For Loose Skin

  1. Apply product to fingertips and distribute over skin
  2. Gently pinch as much skin as you can away from the bone
  3. Roll skin gently back and forth between your fingers
  4. While doing all of this, gently twist and vibrate your skin

For Puffy, Red & Irritated Skin

  1. Apply product to face
  2. Cross your hands and place at the base of your neck
  3. Gently pull your hands in without sliding
  4. Slowly move your way up your neck and face

Step 4 - Technology As Needed To Boost Skin's Remodeling

It is of utmost importance not to wound or burn your skin. When we are wounded, our body must heal this with a process that is different than the tissue remodeling process we are trying to achieve. After a wound of any kind, whether it is a burn, a cut or a sprain, our body heals this through scar tissue formation. It has no other choice. Scar tissue formation creates inferior collagen and elastin.

There are so many technologies available today, both clinical and designed for home use. Educate yourself which will cause stimulation of tissue remodeling and which will stimulate scar tissue formation.

Here are just a few technology examples:

  • Cold laser technology / "hot" laser technology

  • Radiofrequency technology

  • Ultrasonic technology

  • Chemical peel technology

  • Microneedling technology

  • Microcurrent / electro-therapy technology
